Hi, I'm River Valdez. I am 17, with a passion for cycling and a love for the unique beauty of Sedona, AZ, which I proudly call home. I was born in Frisco, CO, and lived in Breckenridge until I was four. My family moved to Sedona, and it's been the perfect playground for my adventures ever since.
Family is a big part of who I am. My older sister is my closest friend and is studying psychology on a pre-medical track at ASU. My dad, an architect from Texas, and my mom, an interior designer from Kansas, have shaped my appreciation for design and creativity. Strider completes our family - our energetic German Shorthaired Pointer, who thrives on outdoor adventures with us.
In the cycling world, I've found both challenges and victories. I recently earned the title of AZ State Champion, a testament to my dedication and hardwork to my passion. Additionally, I'm excited to share that I've been selected to ride for the prestigious Bear National Team again. It's an honor I don’t take for granted, and I'm stoked about the opportunities this year will bring.
Aside from cycling, I enjoy trail running and hiking. Hangover Trail is a favorite, with its stunning views and technical features. On scorching summer days, I enjoy swimming and have dipped into competitive swimming, representing my school swim team.
When I'm not outside, I'm an artist and love music. With my training schedule and traveling, drawing and practicing my guitar regularly has been harder, but I get it in when I can.
Academically, I'm a senior at ASU Digital Prep. I’ve been attending online school for about a year, which I love. It gives me the flexibility I need to race around the globe.
Looking ahead, I plan to pursue a biology major on a pre-med track after high school. Combining my academic aspirations with my cycling opportunities is something I eagerly anticipate. Life's a journey, and I'm ready to pedal through the twists and turns.
